Indonesian investigators said Tuesday a faulty system on an AirAsia flight led pilots to take actions that caused them to lose control of the jet that crashed into the Java Sea last December.
In its final report, the National Transportation Safety Committee said the Airbus A320’s flight control system had a cracked solder joint that set off alarms.
“Subsequent flight crew action resulted in inability to control the aircraft,” the committee said in a report. The plane then went into a “prolonged stall” that was beyond their ability to fix.
In a prior report, the committee noted the plane ascended steeply and then stalled before hurtling into the water. All 162 people on board died.
