US Economy Adds 255,000 Jobs

The U.S. economy had a net gain of 255,000 jobs in July and wages rose a bit.

Friday’s report from the Labor Department also says the unemployment rate was steady at a low 4.9 percent.

Government experts said job gains occurred in business services, health care and financial activities. Mining, which includes the oil industry battered by recent low prices, continued to decline.

The data show 7.8 million Americans still unemployed, and another 5.9 million who want fulltime work, but can only find part-time employment.
