Romanian Nightclub Blast Leaves 26 Dead, Scores Injured

An explosion and fire apparently set off by fireworks during a rock concert killed at least 26 people Friday in a nightclub in Bucharest, Romania.

Romanian officials said 145 people were taken to hospitals with burns.

President Klaus Iohannis said he was shocked and called the tragedy “a very sad moment for our nation.”

About 400 people were in the audience at the Colectiv club watching a performance by the band Goodbye to Gravity.

Witnesses said fireworks set a pillar and the ceiling on fire, sending people stampeding for the exits in a panic, with some in their bare feet.
