A Palestinian Cabinet minister has died after clashes with Israeli troops during a protest in the West Bank.

Ziad Abu Ein died Wednesday shortly after the confrontation in the Turmus Aya area.

Witnesses said Israeli troops fired tear gas at protesters and beat some of them with riffle butts.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the incident a “brutal attack” and a “barbaric act.”

Abbas pledged to “take the necessary measures” after an investigation.

There was no immediate comment from Israel.
