U.S. President-elect Donald Trump put $66 million of his own money into the presidential campaign, according to disclosures filed Thursday night.
Federal Election Commission reports say that in the final days of the campaign, Trump spent $94 million dollars, while his opponent, Hillary Clinton – who had a larger campaign fund than Trump – spent $132 million in the last days of the race to the Oval Office.
Still, the brash billionaire beat out the former secretary of state in a stunning political upset, that many, including the media, did not see coming.
Brad Parscale, Trump’s digital director, told The Associated Press strategic last-minute investment in digital advertising in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida opened the way for the Republican candidate to win the White House.
“You think, what if we hadn’t spent that,” Parscale told AP. “We might not have won.”
Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, said at a recent conference of political strategists and journalists at Harvard that he regretted not putting more money in Michigan, a state Trump won by fewer than 11,000 votes.
The reports say Trump raised $339 million to Clinton’s $565 million during the campaign.
