At least 10 people were killed and dozens more injured when an explosion hit a market in the home city of Philippine President Duterte Friday.

The cause of the blast in the city of Davao was not immediately clear. President Duterte was in the city at the time of the explosion, but he has not yet released a statement.

The explosion reportedly hit a section of the market near the high-end Marco Polo Hotel, where Duterte frequently stays.

Duterte was the mayor of Davao, where he is hugely popular, for over 22 years before assuming the presidency in June.
