At Least 1 Dead in New York Crane Collapse

The Fire Department of New York City has confirmed that one person is dead and two others were seriously injured in a crane collapse in Lower Manhattan.

The accident was reported during Friday morning’s rush hour in the Tribeca neighborhood.

The crane landed across an intersection and stretched about one block on top of several parked cars, smashing their roofs.

Tribeca is known for its industrial buildings converted into expensive homes and lofts.

Originally written as TriBeCa for Triangle Below Canal Street, the neighborhood was known as an inexpensive residential area of the New Your City for young artists and their families in late 1960s and 1970s.
