A 7.9-magnitude earthquake with a depth of 73 kilometers struck the New Ireland region of Papua New Guinea Saturday.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami threat for parts of the Pacific located close to the earthquake.
The center said, however, there is no threat to Hawaii or other areas farther away.
