Pakistani national security advisor Sartaj Aziz on Thursday confirmed he will travel to New Delhi on August 23 for talks with his Indian counterpart.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, met last month in Russia and agreed to open talks between their national security advisors to discuss issues straining bilateral ties.
Armies of the two countries have frequently accused each other of initiating cross-border fire in disputed Kashmir, resulting in civilian casualties on both sides. The border skirmishes have raised tensions.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Aziz said that Sharif has always believed in dialogue as far as India is concerned and noted that it was India which suspended the dialogue nearly one year ago.
“And so I will be going there later this month, on 23 of August. That is not a breakthrough in terms of composite dialogue and all the issues but it is an icebreaking on some issues and let us hope it will lead to further and a more comprehensive dialogue on all the issues between the two countries,” Aziz said.
