Second UN Staffer Infected with Ebola in Liberia

The United Nations mission in Liberia says a second member of its staff has contracted Ebola.

In a statement Wednesday, the mission said the international medical official is undergoing treatment, but did not specify their nationality.

The first infected staff member died last month.

Meanwhile, the head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the fight against Ebola in Africa will be long and hard, but that there are real signs of progress.

Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters Tuesday the advances include better training, more understanding of the virus and safer practices for burying Ebola victims.

The Ebola outbreak has killed more than 3,400 people – with most cases in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Material for this report came from AFP, and Reuters.
