US Football Commissioner Vows to ‘Clean Up’ After Abuse Scandal

The U.S. National Football League has announced plans to implement new personal conduct policies after the publication of a video showing one of its biggest stars knocking his wife unconscious.

An apologetic Roger Goodell, who heads the league, said at a Friday news conference that NFL personnel will be immediately trained on preventing domestic violence and sexual assaults. Goodell told reporters, “We will get our house in order.”

Player Ray Rice was originally suspended for two games for punching his fiancee, a day before the two were married. After the video was made public by a media outlet in early September, he was kicked out of the league indefinitely.

The cases of other players accused of domestic violence are also under review with their futures in the NFL now in limbo.
