Bosnian Town Goes Wild For Croatian Tennis Champion Cilic

Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic has won the U.S. Open in New York, one of the four major world tournaments in the sport. RFE/RL’s Balkan Service spoke to Cilic’s friends and relatives in the town of Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina, where Cilic was born to Bosnian Croat parents in 1988. Cilic’s father says his son’s decision to play for Croatia was made for financial, not political, reasons. Many residents of Medjugorje are celebrating his victory.
