Israeli police say a Palestinian man has stabbed at least nine people on a bus in Tel Aviv, leaving several with serious wounds.

Authorities said the attack Wednesday began with the man stabbing the bus driver and then several passengers. 

They said he then fled the bus, but was tracked down by prison officers who were nearby at the time. Officials said the officers shot the 23-year-old suspect in the leg and arrested him.

Police spokesmen identified the man as being from the West Bank and called him a “terrorist.”

The violence is the latest in a string of attacks in recent months by Palestinians in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, some of them deadly, as the Israeli-Palestinian tensions remain high.
