Biden Likely to Face Pressure During Turkey Visit

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will be the most senior Western leader to visit Turkey since the failed coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan when he arrives Wednesday.

The White House says Biden will “indicate our continued, ongoing strong support for our allies in Turkey.”

Many Turks are angry about what they see as a lack of solidarity from the West, while many in the West are concerned about mass suspensions and firings of government employees and soldiers since the failed coup.

Turkey has also faced a series of horrific terrorist attacks like the one on Saturday that targeted a Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep in the wake of a coup.
