An Egyptian passenger jet was forced to land in Cyprus on Tuesday after being hijacked with about 60 people on board.

Officials in Cyprus said the hijackers did not immediately make any demands after the plane landed at an airport in Larnaka.

The Egyptair flight was originally due to travel from Alexandria to Egypt’s capital, Cairo.

The Egyptian civil aviation ministry says the hijacker threatened to detonate an explosive belt.
